Destiny 2 Xur location and items, March 12-16

The weekly Exotic item merchant, Xur, hangs out in random locations around the world of Destiny. In Destiny 2, he can appear all over the map, as well as inside the Tower. This week, you can find Xur in the Tower, standing on the back stairs of the Hangar.

Xur’s inventory this week consists of the following:

  • Monte Carlo, Kinetic auto rifle: 29 Legendary Shards
  • Knucklehead Radar, Hunter helmet: 23 Legendary Shards
  • Synthoceps, Titan arms: 23 Legendary Shards
  • Winter’s Guile, Warlock chest: 23 Legendary Shards
  • Exotic Engram: 97 Legendary Shards (you can now purchase a second with an Exotic Cipher)
  • Exotic Cipher quest: free

Xur’s items drop at a similar power level as your character.

Monte Carlo

Monte Carlo is an older Exotic auto rifle from the original Destiny, brought back to life in Destiny 2: Shadowkeep. Its primary Exotic perk is Monte Carlo Method, which reduces the cooldown of your melee ability whenever you deal damage with Monte Carlo, and offers a chance for a melee ability reset on a Monte Carlo kill. Monte Carlo’s secondary perk is the Markov Chain, which increases the gun’s damage after primary fire or melee kills. Markov Chain also grants ammo on a melee kill.

Monte Carlo was a beloved auto rifle in the original Destiny, and it’s even better in Destiny 2. The gun offers some serious utility for melee-focused builds, and it feels great to shoot. Like most Exotic primaries, this isn’t the kind of weapon you want to take with you into a new raid. But for trolling around the universe, breaking space robots, and punching space rhinos, it’s the perfect companion.

Knucklehead Radar

Knucklehead Radar is a powerful PvP Hunter helmet. Its Exotic perk, Upgraded Sensor Pack, will constantly provide you with a radar, even while aiming down sights. This is a great helmet in PvP or Trials, where your radar is extremely important. However, MIDA Multi-Tool and Ace of Spades have a similar perk, which could make the helmet redundant depending on the loadout you’re using. For that reason, it’s not as powerful as something like Foetracer. If you don’t have this helmet yet, pick it up and keep it with you for PvP emergencies.

Xur’s roll this week comes with 64 total stats.

Synthoceps

Destiny 2 patch 1.2.1 brought changes to Exotic armor. As we wrote near the patch’s release, “Synthoceps will now buff melee damage and super damage by a flat amount for a full eight seconds after being surrounded by three or more enemies. This is potentially a very powerful Exotic now.”

Its Biotic Enhancements intrinsic perk offers “increased melee lunge range” as well as “improved melee and Super damage when surrounded.” This is one of the most powerful Titan Exotics in the game and always benefits you for wearing them. If you don’t have these, buy them!

Xur’s roll this week comes with 60 total stats.

Winter’s Guile

Winter’s Guile is a pretty sub-par Exotic. The Warlord’s Sigil increases your melee damage after a melee kill. As you might imagine, this is very situational and rarely useful. Don’t worry about these unless you’re trying to fill our your collection.

Xur’s roll this week comes with 64 total stats.

Exotic Cipher quest

Starting in Beyond Light, Xur has a new quest for an Exotic Cipher. The Exotic Cipher lets you buy old Exotics from the Monuments To Lost Light kiosk in the tower. You’ll need these items and some other currencies to pick up Exotics like Heir Apparent, Truth, and more.

This week, Xur wants you to complete 21 Strikes or win Crucible or Gambit matches. By finishing the quest, you’ll earn an Exotic Cipher to use however you want.
