Destiny 2’s next season, Season of the Splicer, was revealed earlier this week, and that means players have plenty of questions about what’s coming. In its last weekly update before the launch of Season of the Splicer, Bungie gave fans a few answers in a preview Destiny 2’s upcoming seasonal patch, a roadmap of what’s to come, and a glimpse at some of the new and returning weapons players can expect this season.
As part of the season preview, Bungie revealed some of the weapons and armor players can expect in Season of the Splicer. Season Pass owners will get a new Exotic sidearm on day 1, as well as a shotgun, and heavy machine gun further into the pass. Players can also earn new weapons through Umbral Engrams and Override completions, as well as 12 weapons from multiplayer, four each for Gambit, Crucible, Vanguard, and Strikes. Of course, this is just a small preview of the regular and Legendary weapons to come.
Among the weapons will also be a few returning weapons including the fan favorite, Hung Jury. Based on Bungie’s preview images, it seems there are a few other returning weapons too, including an Omolon sniper rifle and a fusion rifle. These weapons will be available on a weekly rotation in Nightfall playlists.
One big change in Season of the Splicer is how seasonal armor is unlocked. Rather than simply unlocking as you earn Season Ranks, Seasonal Track armor will now be unlocked by completing specific seasonal activities. These pieces are also guaranteed with focused Umbral Engrams. Seasonal Ranks that used to grant armor will now give things like Glimmer, Legendary Shards, Upgrade Modules, Exotic Engrams, Enhancement Cores, and Enhancement Prisms, instead.
In this week’s update, Bungie also gave fans a preview of some of the other content that’s going to be released after Season of the Splicer launches on May 11. According to the new roadmap, players can expect Trials of Osiris to begin on May 14, the Vault of Glass to open up on May 22 Solstice of Heroes to kick off on July 6 and run through Aug. 3, and plenty of Iron Banner events, Override missions, and Pinnacle missions along the way. There will also be an Epilogue event on starting on Aug. 10, two weeks before the season ends.
Finally, Bungie also gave a brief preview of the patch notes that will accompany the Season of the Splicer’s release. The patch notes include new colorblind support options and some balance changes for each subclass. There’s also a special note from the game’s sandbox discipline lead Kevin Yanes, who mentions that the team is going to look at Stasis Freeze, Slow accuracy penalties, and Whisper of Hedrons for possible balance changes in the future.
