Capcom opened the latest Nintendo Direct with a firm release date for Monster Hunter Wilds on Switch 2. The game arrives on December 4, 2026

Cross-Platform Play and Local Multiplayer Confirmed
Switch 2 players will have access to local multiplayer for up to four hunters, and Capcom has confirmed full cross-platform play, meaning Switch 2 hunters can join sessions with players on other platforms. However, cross-save is not supported. According to the official Monster Hunter support FAQ, progress from a PS5 save cannot be carried over to the Switch 2 version, and vice versa.

That distinction matters for anyone already deep into the game on another platform. The multiplayer connection works across platforms, but your save data stays tied to wherever you originally started playing.

Pre-Order Pricing and Editions
Digital pre-orders open on October 19, 2026, at a discounted price of $29.99 USD. That pricing window runs until December 19, 2026, giving buyers roughly two months after launch to grab the game at the lower rate. Capcom is also offering pre-order bonuses alongside a Gold Edition, both of which were shown in the accompanying trailer.

For those who prefer a physical retail option, a Game-Key Card version is available at $39.99 USD. It includes the base game along with a Deluxe Pack voucher that comes with additional in-game content. It is worth noting that a Game-Key Card is still a digital copy of the game – the card does not contain the game data itself and requires a download.

A Prologue Demo Is on the Way
Capcom also announced a Monster Hunter Wilds Prologue Demo will release before the Switch 2 launch date, giving players a chance to try the game ahead of December 4. No specific date for the demo was given at this time, so Switch 2 owners should keep an eye out for further details from Capcom.

Ascendance Expansion Coming in 2027
Beyond the base game, Capcom officially confirmed that the new expansion titled Monster Hunter Wilds: Ascendance – described by the developer as a “massive expansion” – will also come to Switch 2 in 2027. No specific release window beyond that year was given for the expansion.

The $29.99 digital pre-order price has drawn attention given the scale of the game, which carries a significantly larger download footprint on other platforms – reportedly around 150GB on some versions. The Game-Key Card format addresses the physical retail space while keeping the download requirement in place, something Capcom has not publicly addressed in detail for the Switch 2 edition specifically.

Monster Hunter Wilds launches on Nintendo Switch 2 on December 4, 2026. Digital pre-orders go live October 19, 2026, and the Prologue Demo is expected before that launch date.
