HBO will continue to fill in the Targaryen timeline with a brand new Game of Thrones series,. The series will be based off the “Dunk & Egg” short stories, which follow the adventures of Aegon V Targaryen and Ser Duncan the Tall.
Original “A Song of Ice and Fire” authorhas written three Dunk & Egg novellas, which are widely adored by the series’ hardcore fans. Martin first released these stories in 1998 with “The Hedge Knight,” then “The Sword Sword” in 2003, and “The Mystery Knight” in 2010. All three were later collected into the book, “A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms” in 2015.
The tales of Aegon and Duncan take place around 90 years before the events of HBO’s original Game of Thrones series. In the stories, the Targaryen prince and his knightly companion go on various adventures around Westeros, most of which HBO’s adaptation would likely cover. Should this show get picked up to series it would likely run alongside, HBO’s other Targaryen-centric Game of Thrones spinoff, which covers the more-ancient history of the house.
According to Variety, the Dunk & Egg series is only in development for now, which means that there’s no guarantee that it will be picked up for series. HBO has already, which was supposed to be set during The Long Night. Meanwhile, the network’s next outing to Westeros, House of the Dragon, .
